How to order?
1. Analyze your current kitchen
To create a kitchen that truly suits you, start by analyzing your current space and how you use it. If you’re planning a brand-new kitchen from scratch, think back to the kitchen in your previous home or visit a friend who has a room similar in size and shape to the one you’re planning.
Ask yourself the following questions about your current kitchen:
- Is there enough workspace?
- Can the new layout be improved, or is the current one already efficient enough?
- How much storage space do you need?
- What do you keep in your kitchen?
- What are your habits and routines in the kitchen?
- Do you have a recycling system?
- How often do you cook?
- Is it possible to change the location of the plumbing or ventilation?
2. Measure the space
Measure everything carefully! Make a simple floor plan sketch and a separate sketch for each wall. Be sure to include the following details:
- All measurements from wall to wall.
- The location and size of all doors, including the door frames.
- The location and size of all windows, including the window frames.
- Measure the distance from the center of the drainpipe to the nearest wall.
- The location of ceiling lights, radiators, switches, sockets, and water pipes. Note whether they can be adjusted to fit the new kitchen design.
3. Plan your kitchen
Kitchen drawing
You can book an individual appointment at Ikea either online or in an Ikea store, or use their online scheduling tool. We strongly recommend using the help of Ikea staff as they are experts in their products.
Ikea kitchen designers can help you create a practical and functional layout based on your sketches. Be sure to also decide on the base for the wall-mounted cabinets and the interior lighting for the drawers, the drawer inserts and the appliances you want.
Household appliances
We recommend using Ikea's own range of appliances. If you are interested in other brands, contact the specific supplier to see if their integrated products are compatible with Ikea frames and front panels. Pay attention to the details - an integrated oven may fit on the frame, but if its front panel protrudes from the doors by even a few millimetres, it won't look good.
